Classical myth has it that the Giants killed by Hercules in the battle of the same name were buried under the rocky surface of Mykonos. The name of the island declares ‘a pile of stones’ or ‘a rocky country’. According to a later tradition, the island is connected to the hero Mykonos, son of the king of Delos.

Legends aside, today the rocky island has become a refined, seductive and elegant destination, also considered a place of temptation. In addition to hosting exclusive parties and eternal late nights, it manages to offer enchanting beaches, cool clubs and crystal-clear sea, which can also be explored on scenic boat trips.

Over time, the Cycladic icon has adapted to other neighboring destinations and has become increasingly easy to reach. The land, scarred by time, with its abandoned rocks and beaches, was soon modernized with the construction of luxurious beach clubs, sea-view restaurants with sophisticated cuisine and quaint boutique hotels. The island’s makeover has intrigued and attracted numerous influencers and VIPs who continue to choose it as a summer destination.

What also makes it unforgettable are the colors: the milky white houses, the doors and window frames in shades of blue, red churches and chapels and finally the magnificent sunsets over the sea. The archaic beauty of the past is still visible, in fact history, culture and tradition are still preserved, giving tourists a truly interesting immersion dive.

We have returned to the island again this summer and offer you a mini-guide with tips on places to visit, experiences not to be missed and the best culinary destinations to try, to fully experience the magic of the island in this 2022. The season continues until the end of September, so why not leave now?

WHERE TO STAY IN MYKONOS

This season’s highlight is undoubtedly the Collini Suites&Villa, a luxury property located in the north of Mykonos in a panoramic position overlooking the whole island.

The rooms have been designed with the latest trends in mind, without forgetting comfort: the views are spectacular and the spaces are very intimate and well-kept, thanks also to the location of the hotel, a quiet area but at the same time easy to reach from the center. The plus: all the Suites have a private pool for truly exclusive relaxation.

Even the restaurant’s menu does not go unnoticed: at “Il Segreto” you can enjoy a true culinary experience, especially if you love Mediterranean cuisine. Dinners will also be enlivened by fire, lights, belly dancing, aerial textiles and other spectacular performances.

Finally, at the SPADEUS wellness center you can enjoy unique innovative massage beds that can be combined with various treatments: water-sand beds, sea salt crystal beds and vibro-musical massage beds.

BEACH CLUBS NOT TO BE MISSED

Nammos

If you want to enjoy a truly luxurious experience, a must is an afternoon at the Nammos Beach Club, unmistakable for its blue-and-white striped sunbeds and umbrellas. The prices are really high (around 150 euro per sunbed and 250 euro for lunch) but you can also enter at aperitif time for a simple (so to speak) cocktail. Giorgio Armani himself chose this beach to celebrate one of his famous parties last July. You will also have the chance to see beautiful yachts close by and meet celebrities from all over the world.

Principote

If you love fun, dancing on tables and singing your heart out under the sun, Principote is the beach for you as well as being one of the most exclusive beach clubs. Despite the exclusive atmosphere, during lunch the tradition is to climb up on the tables, wave your napkin and have fun until the sun goes down, letting the music carry you away.

Agia Anna

If you want to enjoy a day at the beach, Agia Anna is the ideal solution. The club is built next to a beautiful beach with crystal-clear water and golden sand, typical of Greece. Dominating the area is the scenic Spilia restaurant, which can also be accessed directly from the rocks. Spilia’s menu reflects the characteristics of Mediterranean cuisine: their dishes of freshly caught octopus and urchins are very famous.

WHERE TO EAT IN MYKONOS

Between historic food destinations and new establishments, there are also some food tips to make your holiday unforgettable:

Mediterranean

Two Florentine D.O.C. boys Simone Gianassi & Riccardo Conti created ‘MEDITERRANEO’ in 1998. At the time, they were two young people in love with Mykonos but also a reference point on Italian food and nightlife. Today ‘MEDITERRANEO’ is not just a restaurant but a reference point and meeting place for locals, Italian and international tourism and glamorous nightlife.

Muta Mykonos

If you love sushi and fusion cuisine, Mūta is the ideal location. The selection of drinks and cocktails is also excellent. The venue also hosts events with internationally renowned DJs, private parties and special occasions. The inimitable style offers different solutions depending on the event organised, making it unique and memorable.

Hippie Fish

Hippie Fish is a multi-space restaurant on the beach of Agios Ioannis. It harmoniously combines Cycladic architecture with modern aesthetics. All these elements ensure that the customer can enjoy a multi-dimensional experience as well as a truly interesting food experience.

Ftelia Pacha

Ibizan atmosphere at the new Ftelia Pacha opened last June in Mykonos. Here you will find healthy Mediterranean cuisine with classic dishes redefined by Spanish and Greek influences. You will also discover several vegetarian and vegan options, as well as a variety of salads, fruit platters and innovative cocktails, all accompanied by a beautiful sea view. After dinner you can dance under the stars at the beach club where week after week, some of the world’s greatest DJs come

VISIT THE ISLAND BY BOAT

Exploring some of the best beaches on the island is an experience not to be missed! To visit the coast of Ornos, an elegant yachting and luxury boat town south of Mykonos, we were on board Mant Yachting, a leader in catamaran experiences that combine the beauty of the island with luxury service, all within an exclusive private cruise. The fun approach of a young but highly qualified crew will give you an unforgettable memory!

During the late modern period, the country underwent economic expansion and big business boomed. The Greek marine captain and businessman Angelos Mantolas came up with his most revolutionary and elegant idea. The seeds of Angelo’s incredible ideas were planted during the years he was working as a captain for other successful business people. After twenty-eight years of relevant professional experience the sea became home.

Even though he was always very aware that this job brings a great deal of responsibility with it – towards the guests, the crew and the environment, it was something which he was very happy to take on. Notwithstanding, water became life and he just couldn’t get enough of it and therefore started having a vision about obtaining his own sailing boats. As it is well known without a vision, there can be no goals.

A meeting point for all the myths, this island has represented the essence of Greek hospitality for the last few decades. Mykonos has the uncanny ability to bring each person’s truth to the surface, to add intensity to each moment, to identify needs and make them reality. With that being said and after realizing that a particularly nice aspect of this work is the contact with guests he proceeded to purchase his first Catamaran Yacht in 2020.

The businessman had two sons. At that time the boys were asked to combine all their ideas into one single document in order to be able to tell their once-upon-a-time tale too. Almost immediately, the constitution of the company ‘Mant Yachting’ took place in 2020. Emmanuil and Christos Mantolas were responsible for the establishment of the business two years ago. But there was a world of difference in the management practices the father expected his boys to follow. The elder son was initiated into the nitty-gritties of the business and his younger son became a specialist in Marine Engineering, Troubleshooting, Maintenance & Repair. At this point, it is important to notice that a significant contribution to the business success is owed to their mother. Her love and support played an invaluable role along with her operational and logistics skills.

Nevertheless, the heart and soul of a ship is its crew. Onboard Annangel he wanted to have a team of highly skilled professional merchant seafarers. The crew was made up of up to 7 people, of mixed abilities and circumstances from all walks of life. However, it is important to bear in mind that everyone on our ship has a working role to help sail and operate the ship, including yourself!

In a very short time, the crew becomes like a second family. In addition to that, this sense of togetherness is what makes Mant Yachting so special. I am sure that this is also something that our guests can feel and their feedback has shown that they particularly appreciate the very relaxed yet also elegant atmosphere on board.

Within a distance of 2,5 km from Mykonos Town, there is Korfos bay, one of the most popular spots for kitesurf lovers in Mykonos. Kite Mykonos is the first kitesurfing school in Mykonos operated by Alexandre Kuzolitz, a Brazilian water sports enthusiast who wants to share his passion for this special sport. The wonderful team of very experienced instructors all shares the same love for the sport and passion for teaching which are the most key factors in order to initiate the newcomers in the world of kite surfing.

Located on the right side of the beautiful and windy bay, their main goal focuses on the learning of kitesurfing, while safety and fun remain a major priority. Korfos bay has turned out to be the ideal location for this adventurous sport, offering the right weather conditions for the training process. It is a natural paradise for kitesurfers due to the right tension of the air. The instructors have managed to create a special environment in which people feel safe and content. The training method includes theory lessons and practices with a trainer before going in the water. It also provides the latest equipment and safety gear to ensure the protection of the body, in all cases. There are kite lessons for everyone in spite of the level or fitness ability.

Delos Rineia now and then. It’s an ark of history, floating lazily on the waters of the Aegean Sea, just a few miles away from cosmopolitan Mykonos. It’s a chance to walk around the revival of the glory of the Greek civilization. It’s the head priest of the Cyclades, the birthplace of the immortals. It’s Delos.

In the ancient times, the myth of god Apollo, god of light, and goddess Artemis having been born there rendered the island sacred: no mortal would ever be allowed to be born on its land. But, a cradle of gods as the island has been, no mortals would ever be allowed to die on it either. So, apart from it being a conspicuous religious and economic center, the island had also been exclusive in that: even during the years of peak of the Delian Alliance, women on the brink of childbirth and people close to dying would be carried to the neighboring island of Rineia. The whole of the known world of that age was aware of the sacredness of the island and of its uniqueness.

Nowadays, Delos reserves its uniqueness to the know world: nowhere else in the Globe is there a natural insular archaeological site of this size and importance. No other island on Earth hosts so many monumental antiquities from the Archaic, the Classical, and the Hellenistic periods, i.e. the centuries of the great Greek art, on a territory used exclusively as an archaeological site. Delos is not a museum; Delos is not there to tell a story. Delos is history itself.

Visitors coming from the neighboring islands are not there on an educational trip; they have rather embarked on a lifetime experience. And, as if by magic, the sacredness of the island lives on: the multitudes of people, who flock to share the island’s uniqueness, can do nothing but just visit it. The archaeological experience is the one and only activity the island is about. Its enchanting landscape is home to nobody. History is thus repeating itself: in a place of such importance, no person is ever born or dies.

Rineia is known for its golden sceneries and emerald waters sealing everyone’s memories. Rineia called alternatively “Great Delos” and “Big Delos”, is four times the size of its sister island and separated from it by a small strait. Rineia is one of the small islands immediately southwest of the island of Mykonos in the Cyclades archipelago. It is a hilly and fairly dry island where you can find a couple of beautiful sandy beaches. Rineia is an uninhabited island with no amenities. So you cannot stay overnight but fully enjoy daytime.
