Classical myth has it that the Giants killed by Hercules in the battle of the same name were buried under the rocky surface of Mykonos. The name of the island declares ‘a pile of stones’ or ‘a rocky country’. According to a later tradition, the island is connected to the hero Mykonos, son of the king of Delos.
Legends aside, today the rocky island has become a refined, seductive and elegant destination, also considered a place of temptation. In addition to hosting exclusive parties and eternal late nights, it manages to offer enchanting beaches, cool clubs and crystal-clear sea, which can also be explored on scenic boat trips.
Over time, the Cycladic icon has adapted to other neighboring destinations and has become increasingly easy to reach. The land, scarred by time, with its abandoned rocks and beaches, was soon modernized with the construction of luxurious beach clubs, sea-view restaurants with sophisticated cuisine and quaint boutique hotels. The island’s makeover has intrigued and attracted numerous influencers and VIPs who continue to choose it as a summer destination.
What also makes it unforgettable are the colors: the milky white houses, the doors and window frames in shades of blue, red churches and chapels and finally the magnificent sunsets over the sea. The archaic beauty of the past is still visible, in fact history, culture and tradition are still preserved, giving tourists a truly interesting immersion dive.
We have returned to the island again this summer and offer you a mini-guide with tips on places to visit, experiences not to be missed and the best culinary destinations to try, to fully experience the magic of the island in this 2022. The season continues until the end of September, so why not leave now?
WHERE TO STAY IN MYKONOS
This season’s highlight is undoubtedly the Collini Suites&Villa, a luxury property located in the north of Mykonos in a panoramic position overlooking the whole island.
The rooms have been designed with the latest trends in mind, without forgetting comfort: the views are spectacular and the spaces are very intimate and well-kept, thanks also to the location of the hotel, a quiet area but at the same time easy to reach from the center. The plus: all the Suites have a private pool for truly exclusive relaxation.
Even the restaurant’s menu does not go unnoticed: at “Il Segreto” you can enjoy a true culinary experience, especially if you love Mediterranean cuisine. Dinners will also be enlivened by fire, lights, belly dancing, aerial textiles and other spectacular performances.
Finally, at the SPADEUS wellness center you can enjoy unique innovative massage beds that can be combined with various treatments: water-sand beds, sea salt crystal beds and vibro-musical massage beds.
BEACH CLUBS NOT TO BE MISSED
Nammos
If you want to enjoy a truly luxurious experience, a must is an afternoon at the Nammos Beach Club, unmistakable for its blue-and-white striped sunbeds and umbrellas. The prices are really high (around 150 euro per sunbed and 250 euro for lunch) but you can also enter at aperitif time for a simple (so to speak) cocktail. Giorgio Armani himself chose this beach to celebrate one of his famous parties last July. You will also have the chance to see beautiful yachts close by and meet celebrities from all over the world.
Principote
If you love fun, dancing on tables and singing your heart out under the sun, Principote is the beach for you as well as being one of the most exclusive beach clubs. Despite the exclusive atmosphere, during lunch the tradition is to climb up on the tables, wave your napkin and have fun until the sun goes down, letting the music carry you away.
Agia Anna
If you want to enjoy a day at the beach, Agia Anna is the ideal solution. The club is built next to a beautiful beach with crystal-clear water and golden sand, typical of Greece. Dominating the area is the scenic Spilia restaurant, which can also be accessed directly from the rocks. Spilia’s menu reflects the characteristics of Mediterranean cuisine: their dishes of freshly caught octopus and urchins are very famous.
WHERE TO EAT IN MYKONOS
Between historic food destinations and new establishments, there are also some food tips to make your holiday unforgettable:
Mediterranean
Two Florentine D.O.C. boys Simone Gianassi & Riccardo Conti created ‘MEDITERRANEO’ in 1998. At the time, they were two young people in love with Mykonos but also a reference point on Italian food and nightlife. Today ‘MEDITERRANEO’ is not just a restaurant but a reference point and meeting place for locals, Italian and international tourism and glamorous nightlife.
Muta Mykonos
If you love sushi and fusion cuisine, Mūta is the ideal location. The selection of drinks and cocktails is also excellent. The venue also hosts events with internationally renowned DJs, private parties and special occasions. The inimitable style offers different solutions depending on the event organised, making it unique and memorable.
Hippie Fish
Hippie Fish is a multi-space restaurant on the beach of Agios Ioannis. It harmoniously combines Cycladic architecture with modern aesthetics. All these elements ensure that the customer can enjoy a multi-dimensional experience as well as a truly interesting food experience.
Ftelia Pacha
Ibizan atmosphere at the new Ftelia Pacha opened last June in Mykonos. Here you will find healthy Mediterranean cuisine with classic dishes redefined by Spanish and Greek influences. You will also discover several vegetarian and vegan options, as well as a variety of salads, fruit platters and innovative cocktails, all accompanied by a beautiful sea view. After dinner you can dance under the stars at the beach club where week after week, some of the world’s greatest DJs come
VISIT THE ISLAND BY BOAT
Exploring some of the best beaches on the island is an experience not to be missed! To visit the coast of Ornos, an elegant yachting and luxury boat town south of Mykonos, we were on board Mant Yachting, a leader in catamaran experiences that combine the beauty of the island with luxury service, all within an exclusive private cruise. The fun approach of a young but highly qualified crew will give you an unforgettable memory!
